In this video, Victoria uses positive training. With no physical contact cues, like putting a hand on the puppy’s backside, one would be able to teach a puppy to sit rather easily using this method.
The first thing she did was hold a treat to motivate the puppy. The treat was held at an angle which would only allow the puppy to reach the treat if he puts his bottom on the ground. After the puppy is sitting, she then uses the word “sit” to associate the action with the word. The entire time, a hand signal has been used, and eventually the puppy will learn to sit by either the hand signal or the use of the word describing the action required.
